The family of notes was designed by Clarence Holbert of the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP). The obverse side contains a colored image of Eritrean fighters raising the EPLF flag, and a triptych portrait of three children from Eritreas nine nationalities. Its reverse side shows schoolchildren studying outside the classroom, and the Bank of Eritrea logo. The note has a solid security thread, a camel registration device, and a camel head watermark. The note was demonetized in January 2016.
