Madagascar, or officially the Republic of Madagascar, is an island country connected to the African continent and is located in the western part of the Indian Ocean in the eastern part of the continent. The Mozambique Channel separates the country from the African mainland. The island of Madagascar is the fourth largest island in the world. Since the country is an island country, it has no border neighbors, and the closest mainland country is Mozambique, located in the west of the island. Apart from this, the neighboring island countries are Comoros and French overseas territory Mayotte in the northwest, Mauritius and Réunion islands, also French overseas territories, in the east. The capital of the country is Antananarivo.
